Old timey radio
Hopefully I can take a little bit of time and speak over the days I missed, which were many in number!
I worked a lot with my father, finishing up a house that he was working on, putting up trim, framing and preparing a fireplace for the masonry to be put on. The Corian countertops came out very nicely and the owners were pleased. I was pleased because I made some money over Christmas break! Now I've been looking at such items on Ebay as John Calvin's commentaries and a set of B.B. Warfield's books. It feels good to have a little pocket money but the majority will go into savings so I can store up for the future semesters. Hopefully this summer the same sort of situation will happen and I'll be able to work some more.
My parents were watching a TV program (they hooked up an antenna so they could get weather news) called "Beauty and the Geeks" where they apparently teamed up these very smart guys with these very dumb girls who were teenage models or something. They worked with eachother for a couple of weeks and then they quizzed the girls on fifth grade level questions and the guys on pop culture stuff (like who sung such and such a song dressed as a school girl?). I didn't know any answers to the pop culture stuff, things about Brittany Spears or whoever it was, but the girls got very easy questions such as "who is on the one-dollar bill?"
One of the girls got a question that was as follows:
Who was president during the Civil War?
She stared at the floor for a long time, thinking, and then just before time ran out she quickly blurted "Hoover!"
The guy said no, that was incorrect, it was actually Abraham Lincoln.
She (obviously mentally kicking herself) groaned "Oh! Right! D-Day."
My jaw very nearly hit the floor. Like my brother said: "They have to be faking right? I mean, no one is that stupid!" Not only did she totally miss the question, she made herself look even worse after she heard the answer!
Time passes quickly and I was soon loaded up and ready to drive back to my "home away from home" up by the University. Charlie accompanied me on the drive of course and sat on my arm, staring at the cars as they passed me (since I obey the speed laws, I get passed an awful lot). I had quite a few second-takes and a few people were laughing. I'm not sure whether they were laughing at me or at Charlie's outfit, a bright green shirt with purple pants and a red cap! Either way, I had fun and I think I brightened up a few people's day, or at least gave them something to write about on their blogs.....
My father says I'm not a typical 20-year old.
The Y's were very gracious in letting me use their house even though they weren't at home, I did a couple things around while I was there because I had plenty of time, browsed the Internet for a few books, answered e-mail etc. and Saturday was pretty much the same. I read (and finished) The Puritan Hope by Iain Murray while sitting outside with the Y's dog, Kitty. She seemed to be greatly desirous of showing off her squirrel chasing skills, as she kept leaping toward one on the other side of the fence, eventually chasing him up a tree and onto the power lines. Crazy dog, she tore up her blanket too and there (somehow) was fluff all over the yard, there didn't seem to be a corner where there wasn't at least a little bit of the stuff. How she managed to do it (even the wind wouldn't have done as thorough a job) and spread it out so far is beyond me!
I had arrived Friday and spent the night so I could put up some posters advertising my textbooks (I really should have done it before I left last semester) and Saturday my father drove up the Camper (my home) so I could sleep in it that night. He and my younger sister (who came along) stayed in the camper with me that night and then we went to church on Sunday, the next morning.
I don't have much to offer about yesterday, save that it was very encouraging once again and I especially enjoyed the evening at the Vaknor house, though the same could not be said for Charlie. Neither of the two youngest ladies who would have come, were able to come and Charlie had more ear-pulling than he cared for. I think from now on he'd prefer to stay at home. Besides that, when it's just him and myself then I'm fine but when there is a crowd I start getting nervous, being a center point of attention and then Charlie (he's normally not nervous) starts getting nervous from me and won't carry on that much of a conversation. Ah well.
Oh, I found out from my Calculus teacher that I had a 200/200 on the final exam, which I was surprised to hear about but also happy, it means that I should have a good foundation for this next semester (I hope). I also spent a lot of last week reading up and preparing in my textbooks for the next semester so I felt ready to come to class today.
