It's a fourth on the fifth... no sixth now!

All right, I'm going to make an attempt to catch up here.

The next day was the Fourth of July, which you can read about on e-Blog in detail, as far as the group activities go.

In the morning, our team ate breakfast with the S family and then proceeded to put together a trampoline for them. It was a large, square trampoline which personally I prefer to the circular ones, you seem to be able to get a lot more spring all over rather than just on the edges. And you can jump higher :)

It was supposed to take four hours for 2 guys to put together but it took us four about 2 and a half hours. I'm not sure if that's good or not, theoretically it should have taken less than two, but we were happy to get it done.

I was sweating profusely.....

Mr S was the first one to try it out, then we dragged it over to where he wanted to have it "permanently," so I ran and got two shovels and David and myself dug out where the legs were supposed to sit. I think we got it pretty close to level, at least close enough so that no one will roll off while jumping!

Then David, Clay, Mr S, and myself went over to Mrs S' mother's house, which was merely few miles away. I had never met her before and she seemed like a nice, small elderly lady (definitely shorter than most). We loaded up two refrigerators and a dresser and took them back to the shop and unloaded them. Actually, one was a small refrigerator and the other was a large, standup freezer, but when one is carrying them, you don't notice the difference too much.

Then we cleaned up and went to the W's house for the fourth of July picnic. I was standing over talking to Mr W after we arrived while some of the other young men went to play with the football. After a while, and just standing there (I hadn't much on my mind at the time I suppose) Reese, the W's dog, came running over and then saw the ball that the boys had and started running, with me chasing after her (and tagging her). Then I "tried" to play with the other boys. Football is most definitely not a sport I am adept at. The rules just seem to keep on popping up magically. I went to tag Stephen, Austin's brother but thought they had said just a two-handed tag. Well, it turns out that was just for the girls and not the boys, the boys were supposed to tackle and bring them down. So here I am, after only 15 minutes of play shaking my head and trying to rid myself of that horrible buzzing that seems to have come upon me.

I was sweating profusely....

Then we played some ultimate Frisbee. The Parnells always do very well, Sam has such long arms and can make almost any catch. JD is very smooth and always seems to be in just the right spot. Austin is in great shape and got the frisbee quite often. Stephen was always there ready to make a score and was a great guy to pass to, Beth got VERY into the game and was very competitive against her sister, Missy and her father I believe (who were both on the opposing team). I mainly held back near the end zone and tried to block or steal and be open for a pass. The wind was really kicking up though so we should have tried to play more inward, Paster Parnell was trying to do short passes because the long ones were getting caught on the gusts and would either float or curve violently.

I was sweating profusely....

Afterward, we ate and then went to play a little bit of volleyball. It was very enjoyable and our team was doing pretty good. We lost the first game but I think we won the second, from then we just hit it back and forth until the Irish dancing started, when Bruce left the game to watch. A few more minutes of playing and we broke up, I wanted to see the dancing but came in just on the end of it.

We then went to the fireworks show, which was quite the sight. While waiting a bit for the show to start, JD, Christi, Stephen, and myself went down to toss the frisbee around, experimenting throwing with our offhand, with Abigail and Laura joining us a bit later (sort of). Laura was trying to step on my feet for some curious reason.....

I was sweating profusely....

We watched the fireworks for a while, asked Evelyn a question or two about the trip to Scotland (and discussed applauding between movements) and went home. We had to stop off by Walmart to pick up some supplies for lunches the next day so by the time we got home it was nearly midnight. I don't care to stay up that late but a couple of other team members don't mind.

Then I went to bed, not sweating profusely.

Playing football is always a mystery to me. I much prefer ultimate frisbee. RUF kids play ultimate frisbee on Monday nights when the weather is warm enough. But the boys in RUF are all so good at ultimate that sometimes it's rather embarrassing to play with them.

I'm glad you got to meet Mrs. S's mother. She and her husband are both very kind people (he died last year, though). Her husband was a band director, and he used to send me flute sheet music to play for fun.
